We have achieved a maximum yield of 250 to 300 tons per acre per year, harvesting continuously for over 8 years (since 2018) with our RainGun system and the Super Napier variety — using no chemical fertilizer or weedicide at any stage on our farm.

Land Preparation

First, we deep-plough the field 3 to 4 times to bring the bottom soil to the top and loosen it — improving air intake, root growth and beneficial soil-organism activity. After about a week, we form raised beds up to 100 feet long and 1.5 feet high in a half-round curved shape, then sprinkle water to ready the field for planting.

Plantation & Harvesting Cycle

Healthy Super Napier saplings are planted at 3-foot intervals. Weeds are removed only once — manually or with a weeder. The first harvest comes at 60 days, after which cutting continues every 45 days — giving 8 cuttings per year and 250 to 300 tons per acre, still with no chemical fertilizer or weedicide.

Customised RainGun Design

Based on your area, water source (well or borewell), power availability and whether you cut manually or by machine, we customise the RainGun irrigation design to your field. From our vast experience, a permanent pillar-type fixed RainGun system with single-valve control along the pathways is best for easy operation and long service life. We finalised this design in 2025 and have already completed 5+ large projects with it — very comfortable to operate, with uniform wetting that naturally leads to very high yield.

A Real Story — Natural Farming Without Chemical Fertilizer

How our natural-farming practice eliminates chemical fertilizer and weedicides — a pilot project proven in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, since 2018.

1. Soil Preparation (2018)

On a 1.5-acre plot, the bottom soil was rotated to the top up to 1 foot deep with a disc cultivator and left to rest for 7 days. Bunds were then formed as raised beds 1.5 feet high with a curved top, and the soil enriched with dung and urine from a nearby cow farm.

2. Plantation Method

Using the raised-bed method, a single Super Napier stem with two nodes was planted at each 3-foot interval. Only one flood irrigation was given at planting, to help the plant grip the soil.

3. Irrigation Method

RainGun irrigation drives the maximum yield of 250 tons/acre/year. The system was erected in 2012 with a 50-year design life (14 years completed by 2026). Every month, cow urine and dung mixed with flood irrigation is delivered by a sewage pump through the bed canals — natural farming that maximises plant growth without any chemical fertilizer.

4. Harvesting

Cutting is done with a manual fodder harvester1 to 2 tons harvested per day as needed to feed a 60-animal dairy farm.
