Thumba dairy machines for gaushala use — the equipment set supplied to a 125-cow gaushala in Vrindavan, Mathura

Feed, hygiene and waste — the three jobs a gaushala has to do every single day for its cows.

A Donor in Delhi, a Gaushala in Vrindavan

In 2016 a reputed devotee from Delhi called us with an unusual request: to supply a complete set of dairy machines for the 125 cows maintained at a gaushala in Vrindavan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He was not the operator — he was the donor. What he wanted was for the gift to be the right equipment.

So the work started with a conversation rather than a quotation. We explained which of our machines and technologies actually suit gaushala purposes — where a gaushala's needs differ from a commercial dairy's, and which machines earn their place when nobody is selling milk to justify them. From that he made his selection.

The Three Machines He Chose

Thumba 7.5 HP high speed chaff cutter cum pulverizer, 3 tons per hour — supplied to the Vrindavan gaushala for chaffing green fodder
Machine 1 · Feed

7.5 HP High Speed Chaff Cutter cum Pulverizer

Rated at 3 tons per hour, for chaffing green fodder for the herd. At that capacity a gaushala of this size gets its whole day's fodder cut in a short morning run.

Thumba 1.5 HP dairy dung cleaning pump — supplied to the Vrindavan gaushala for cleaning sheds and washing cows
Machine 2 · Hygiene

Dairy Dung Cleaning Pump — 1.5 HP

For cleaning the gaushala sheds. A high pressure jet clears dung from the floor in minutes instead of hours of manual scraping — which matters most where the labour is voluntary and the herd never shrinks.

Thumba 1 HP sewage mud pump — pumps gaushala waste water 400 feet outside the premises at Vrindavan, Mathura
Machine 3 · Waste

Sewage Mud Pump — 1 HP

Ordered for waste water disposal — moving the dung and urine mixture 400 feet to a point outside the gaushala. This is the machine most donors never think of, and the one that decides whether the other two stay usable.

Handed Over to the Trustee

The machines were handed over to the Mathura Vrindavan trustee in 2016 — to the institution that would run them, not to the donor who paid for them. Together they serve the gaushala cows across all three daily tasks: chaffing green fodder, cleaning the gaushala sheds, and pumping the resulting waste water clear of the premises.

A gaushala is not a business — no milk is sold to pay for equipment, and the cows are cared for regardless of what they produce. That makes machine choice more consequential, not less: whatever is donated has to keep working for years on volunteer labour and a charitable budget. Specifying against that reality, rather than against a catalogue, is the whole job.

For a gaushala at a very different scale, see the Coimbatore gaushala running 3200 animals, where we designed a 30 HP, 15 tons per hour chaff cutter to keep up with the herd. If you are a donor or a trustee considering equipment for a gaushala, talk to us before you buy — we will tell you honestly which machines that particular gaushala needs and which it does not.

Frequently Asked Questions

What machines does a gaushala need for 125 cows?

Three machines cover the daily work at the Vrindavan gaushala in Mathura: a 7.5 HP high speed chaff cutter cum pulverizer at 3 tons per hour for chaffing green fodder, a 1.5 HP dairy dung cleaning pump for washing the sheds and the cows, and a 1 HP sewage mud pump to move the resulting waste water away from the premises. Between them they handle feed, hygiene and waste for 125 animals.

Can you donate machines to a gaushala?

Yes, and it is how this project happened. A reputed devotee in Delhi called us in 2016, chose the equipment for a gaushala in Vrindavan, Mathura, and we handed the machines over directly to the Mathura Vrindavan trustee. Donors regularly fund equipment rather than running costs because a machine keeps serving the cows for years. We are happy to advise a donor on what a particular gaushala actually needs before anything is bought.

How far can gaushala waste water be pumped away from the sheds?

At the Vrindavan gaushala the 1 HP sewage mud pump moves waste water — dung and urine together — to a discharge point 400 feet outside the gaushala. Our 1 HP model can carry slurry considerably further than that, so 400 feet is comfortably within its range rather than at its limit.

Why does a gaushala need a special pump instead of an ordinary one?

Because gaushala waste water is not water. It carries dung, urine, straw and fibre together, and an ordinary pump jams on the solids within days. Our sewage mud pump uses a specially designed impeller that passes semi-solids without the material contacting the impeller directly — which is what allows it to run day after day on shed washings.

Do you supply gaushalas outside Tamil Nadu?

Yes. This gaushala is in Vrindavan, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, specified over the phone with a donor in Delhi and supplied from our works at Palani in Tamil Nadu. We have delivered to Karnataka, Kerala, Assam, Uttarakhand and overseas as well — distance is a logistics question, not a limitation on what we can supply or support.
