30 HP High Output Chaff Cutter · 15 Tons / Hour · Erected August 2019 · Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
Designed from scratch and delivered in 60 days. First of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
In August 2018 a highly reputable person in Coimbatore came to us through our friend circle with a large-quantity chaff cutting problem at his gaushala. At that point the requirement was 4 to 6 tons of chaffed fodder per day for around 1200 animals.
Our largest machine then was the 7.5 HP high speed chaff cutter at 3 tons per hour. We supplied two of them (1+1) to cover the requirement with a spare in hand. That solved the problem — for about a year.
Within a year the gaushala had doubled from 1200 to 2400 animals, and the feed requirement doubled with it. Every day, 30 to 40 tons had to be chaffed inside a 5-hour window.
That was too much burden on the labour team and on our machines alike. The hardest constraint was not tonnage but time: at that load, it was not possible to stop a machine even for a single day for servicing. Then the gaushala expanded again — to 3200 animals.
More machines of the same size would only have multiplied the labour and the service problem. What was needed was a single high output chaff cutter at 15 tons per hour — and nothing of that capacity existed in this sector in Tamil Nadu.
We designed a 30 HP, 15 tons per hour high output chaff cutter from scratch and supplied it within 60 days of the order confirmation date. It was the first machine of its kind in this sector in Tamil Nadu.
Erected in August 2019, the machine has chaffed 40 tons of napier fodder every single day since — without a holiday — and is still running in good condition in 2026. At 15 tons per hour the day's work finishes in under three hours, which finally gave the gaushala something it had not had in a year: a service window.

This project is where our 30 HP / 15 tons per hour chaff cutter comes from — it exists as a standard model today because one gaushala outgrew everything else on the market. At the other end of the range, our first ever chaff cutter was a 2 HP single phase machine built in 2007 for ten cows and fifty goats.
For a gaushala at the opposite end of the scale, see the 125-cow gaushala at Vrindavan, Mathura — the same three daily jobs of feeding, cleaning and waste disposal, solved with a complete three-machine set donated by a devotee in Delhi.
The 30 HP three phase machine rated at 15 tons per hour, designed and built for a Coimbatore gaushala running 3200 animals. It was the first of its kind in this sector in Tamil Nadu when it was erected in August 2019, and it has chaffed 40 tons of napier fodder every day since — without a holiday.
With one machine sized for the job rather than several smaller ones run to their limit. The Coimbatore gaushala needed 30 to 40 tons chaffed inside a 5-hour window every day. At 15 tons per hour, the 30 HP machine clears that in under 3 hours — which also leaves a service window, something multiple smaller machines running flat out never allowed.
This gaushala hit that wall twice. It started at 1200 animals needing 4 to 6 tons a day, which two 7.5 HP machines at 3 tons per hour covered. Within a year the herd doubled to 2400 and the requirement doubled with it, putting an unsustainable burden on both the labour team and the machines. At 3200 animals the answer was no longer more machines but a single high output one — 15 tons per hour.
Thumba designed and supplied this 30 HP, 15 tons per hour machine within 60 days of the order confirmation date. Nothing of that capacity existed in the sector in Tamil Nadu at the time, so the machine was engineered specifically against the gaushala's daily tonnage and its 5-hour chaffing window.
This one has, since August 2019. The 30 HP machine at the Coimbatore gaushala chaffs 40 tons of napier fodder daily with no holiday and remains in good condition in 2026. Feeding 3200 animals is not a task that pauses, so continuous duty was a design requirement, not a bonus.
Tell us your daily tonnage and the window you have to chaff it in. If nothing on the market fits, we will design the machine — as we did here, in 60 days.
