In 2003, Mr. Muthu (S/o Arthanari) from Salem, Tamil Nadu became Thumba Agro Technologies' very first RainGun customer. He approached us with a clear need: reliable, high-volume irrigation for his 4-acre sugarcane field — practised as complete organic farming, with no chemical fertilizers. The crop demands consistent water supply at every critical growth stage, and the results below reflect what organically managed soil, combined with the right irrigation, can achieve.
After a detailed field study, our team recommended a Permanent RainGun System drawing from an open well at 55 feet depth. We then designed and manufactured a custom 6HP 6-stage Thumba motor specifically for his field conditions — calibrated to deliver the right pressure and discharge volume to cover all 4 acres uniformly. The system is built for a design life of 50 years and above; it is currently in its 23rd year of continuous operation.
The system delivered beyond expectations. Mr. Muthu's peak yield of 84 tons per acre came at the 2nd cutting — extraordinary for fully organic sugarcane cultivation in Tamil Nadu. The RainGun system maintained optimal soil moisture through every ratoon cycle, consistently outperforming the state average.
After the 7th cutting, a root disease began affecting the crop. Rather than a failure of the irrigation system, this was a soil and variety issue — Mr. Muthu replanted with a disease-resistant variety specifically to withstand the root cause.
